123-Reg - Whats changed?
Up until recently I've been nothing but pleased with 123-reg, we use it extensively and have a lot of domains purchased through them, all without any problem. The only time over the past 4 years where I've had to pick up the phone to them, was during a particular hour their card processing facilities didn't work, and that was sorted promptly.
Last week I registered a domain for a client; knowing that domains are generally registered instantly but take a while to appear in the account, I went and setup the hosting provisions, DNS and email ready for the domains registration going through - so all I needed to do was change the nameservers. I emailed the client all of the details, and explained that it would all be set-up in about 20 minutes (upto 24 hours depending on the DNS), while we waited for Nameservers to update.
When I went into my account after a short while, the domain wasn't showing. I normally find that it is registered instantly, takes about 10 minutes to show up in the account, and an hour before I can change the nameservers. After performing a WHOIS on the domain, it showed as un-registered; worrying if you want to register a potentially popular domain in a hurry before someone else!
